Golf Injuries to the Foot and Ankle

Although golf does not involve running or jumping, injuries can occur to the foot and ankle. Golfers should be aware Heel Pain or Plantar Fasciitis can be exacerbated by excessive walking on the golf course.

Heel Pain (Plantar Fasciitis)

Heel pain is most often caused by plantar fasciitis, a condition that is sometimes also called heel spur syndrome when a spur is present. Heel pain may also be due to other causes, such as a stress fracture, tendonitis, arthritis, nerve irritation or, rarely, a cyst.

Because there are several potential causes, it is important to have heel pain properly diagnosed. A foot and ankle surgeon is able to distinguish between all the possibilities and to determine the underlying source of your heel pain.

What Is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the band of tissue (the plantar fascia) that extends from the heel to the toes. In this condition, the fascia first becomes irritated and then inflamed, resulting in heel pain.

Causes

The most common cause of plantar fasciitis relates to faulty structure of the foot. For example, people who have problems with their arches, either overly flat feet or high-arched feet, are more prone to developing plantar fasciitis.

Wearing non-supportive footwear on hard, flat surfaces puts abnormal strain on the plantar fascia and can also lead to plantar fasciitis. This is particularly evident when one’s job requires long hours on the feet. Obesity and overuse may also contribute to plantar fasciitis.

Google 5 Star Review for Dr. Fox!

I broke my ankle and leg just a week ago.

I went to see Dr. Fox and was extremely happy with his directness and how well he informed me of what my breaks were, and how he was going to fix them. I love direct answers!

There was virtually no wait time for my appointment, and everyone I had contact with at the office was very friendly…
5 stars in my opinion!!!

I have had Dr. Ira Fox perform a surgery on my foot in 2012 and he is an excellent surgeon and my foot is great and you can’t even see the scar. Today he operated on my son’s foot. My son had an issue tonight and I called the answering service and they said the on call doctor would call me not Dr. Fox. About 10 minutes later my phone rang and it was Dr. Fox. He was out having dinner after a long day of surgeries and patients and he took the time to personally call me. He is a wonderful surgeon and a good man. These are qualities that you rarely find today and to be treated like a person and not just a number that most caregivers treat you like. I have had surgeries done by Dr. DeMorat also. This is a wonderful group of doctors. I can’t thank Dr. Fox enough for his care and concern.

He was so wonderful. My appointment was scheduled for 8:30 and by 8:30 I was already in the back, xrays taken. the office staff was so friendly and caring. The doctor was very informative about my issues and he was quick to come up with the fix. He knew what he was talking about and was able to give me tips as well. After the appointment, unlike most doctors, he told me I don’t have to come back to tell him I am doing well. Only come back if I was still having an issue! I highly recommend him!
