Shoulder Pain Keeping You Up at Night?

Gene J. DeMorat, MD

The shoulder joint is capable of tremendous mobility to assist in the essential activities of everyday life. It relies upon a group of muscles, known as the rotator cuff, to ensure its function for overhead and lifting activities.

Unfortunately, the rotator cuff is commonly associated with injury. Such injuries may occur from a simple fall onto the shoulder or even from the accumulation of simple lifting events over our lifetime.

The most common symptoms are pain, weakness, and motion loss. Symptoms may develop suddenly or in a gradual onset. Symptoms that persist beyond a two week period, without signs of relief, should be evaluated by an orthopaedic surgeon.

Going to Dr. Islinger’s office is a real treat. Beautiful surroundings, flat screen televisions, family seating, and a Keurig coffee maker greet you. You are seen quickly by a staff member as you sign in and the wait has never been very lengthy. Staff keeps you apprised of any waits or how long you can expect to wait. The Doctor greets you warmly and listens to what you have to say – very carefully.

Dr. Richard B. Islinger is exemplary. He takes a very personal interest in your care and should you meet him outside of the office or hospital he is the kind of Doctor that will remember you and your case and he is the kind of man that will greet you as a friend. He takes your care as seriously as if you were his relative and he goes to far ends to solve difficult problems which he then takes great pains to help you understand.I never felt alone for either he, or his Associate Doctor, came quickly at each crisis.

I had had a knee replacement in 2011 which went excellently for the most part, but in April 2014 I had an onset of pain and found that my knee had become infected. He went through three debridement surgeries with me and now I am well and strong and have 90% use of the knee. Since I am 70, I think that’s kind of remarkable. Dr. Islinger is an excellent, thorough, and compassionate Surgeon that I would rate an A+.

Joe Leo

Joe just returned from vacation in Florida, he is so happy he was able to swim and walk on the beach again.

  • Joe Leo, Toms River, NJ 08753
  • Quad Sparing Total Knee Replacement – Right Knee
  • Physician: Stephen J. Zabinski, MD
  • Date of Procedure: February 25, 2014

Joe had been putting off knee replacement surgery for about a year.  The extensive rehab time and the daunting thought of being out of work for several months had him apprehensive about the surgery. Joe lives in the Toms River area and had seen several Orthopedic Physicians, they all told him the same thing. The average recovery time he heard was three to five days in the hospital, then around twenty days in a rehab facility, and out of work on disability for about three months.

What Is Tendonitis?

Dr. DeMorat
By: Gene J. DeMorat, M.D.

First, we must answer the question – What is a tendon? A tendon is a rope-like structure that connects muscle to bone.  When a muscle contracts the tendon provides an attachment point to assist in movement.  Unfortunately, just like ropes we use to lift and pull objects in everyday life our tendons are susceptible to becoming frayed and damaged.
